Listening to trees grow

This is the view right opposite the property:- Although it's nothing inspiring, let's hope it stays the same for decades.

Sneaking In

1 March 09

Now that lock - up stage has officially commenced, we do not get to access the site as frequently as before. The only way possible for any kind of internal observation was to stick our noses on the dusty window panels.

A bunch of mates popped in during the weekend & we took them to a tour of our site. Unexpectedly, a tradie was on site so we all had access into the building.

Windows from the Master Bedroom

They are starting with the installation of the skirting & architraves. They have also advanced on the touching up of our plasterboards. Besides that, we have basic plumbing amenities fitted in. A little bit too slowly and steadily.

Laundry's water outlets

Did I tell you we have doors?

Ah, doors, the agony. How could something so simple turns out to be quite the complicated issue. First you have doors. Then you have sliding doors, glazed doors, entry doors, frameless doors, doors with mirrors, doors with frosted glass, et cetera.

With such a wide array of doors to choose from, we got the worst kind for our secondary bedrooms' wardrobe. Large flushed panel doors. I'm not going to continue on this lest it dwindles the value of this property.

Trash galore

Neighbour

24 February 2009

The building works has come to a stage where everything slows down considerably. Previously we get things sprouting up from the ground in no time at all. Now that the major external works are almost complete, it's time for the 'delicate' internal jobs to be carried out.

Cornices in place

Door panels have arrived

The works are now progressively slower due to the fact that things have to be done one by one instead of overlapping simultaneously. By this, I mean to say that the plastering will have to be completed before the cornices and skirting go in. The architraves will have to be fitted prior to painting. The joinery will have to wait before all this is finished and etc. etc.

Bored with the unharried pace that has settle over since Lock-up stage we directed the camera lenses to the vicinity.

Snap some happy photos

Snap our beautiful trees

Eh, what's that?

This could only mean one thing: -

Neighbours!!

Turns out that our neighbours is actually just a neighbour. Yup, one nice solo guy who thankfully for us, agrees that Willow or Meadow or Evergreen are ugly colours for fences.

The next door builders bruised our trees though ...

Lock-Up Stage

19 February 2009

Lock - up stage inspection commenced on this date. We were basically informed via email to go for a site inspection. An invoice for the next progress payment is forwarded to us as well at approximately the same time. Which is really ridiculous, considering that we will not have enough time for a post-inspection evaluation. Still, that was what happened ...

What lies beyond

After being locked out for days, we were finally admitted entry. Relishing the moment, I began taking photos earnestly like there's no tomorrow.

Lounge

The plasterboards are all in place, sealed, brushed & polished. All joints and holes are now concealed except for the odd openings here & there designed for some wiring. Looks like they will be ready to take on the paint very soon.

Master Bedroom. Left - Ensuite, Right - Walk in Robe.

Shower base in Ensuite

Access panel in ceiling

The private quarters are really small. The Master Bedroom is pretty tiny. The secondary bedrooms are minuscule, to say the least. Which really, is not bad a idea after all.
Of course there are a thousand different living arrangements all over the world, but from my very limited experience, a huge bedroom also means spending less time in the communal areas i.e. the Living or the Kitchen.

Wardrobe rough-in for secondary bedroom

Kitchen - Dining -Living

Everything is looking spot-on. We did not & could not spot any flaws as yet. This is the first time we were there when the tradies are on site. It is good to finally meet the people 'behind the scenes'.

Central Area leading to bedrooms

Kitchen area

This above, will be the Kitchen. It is situated strategically behind the Lounge, next to the dining, opposite the Living & close to the Master. As any food-oriented person will comprehend, having the Kitchen in a central location is crucial to our lives.

The only problem is I will not be having overhead cupboards above my stove and the pantry is 3 steps away. Meaning 6 steps to & fro. Not very convenient. Also, we'll be having an approximately 1m wide niche for our 500mm fridge. Perhaps it is time for a bigger fridge?

Be back soon!
